Anthony Loeff the European mountaineer is reporting the scales for the Mount Everest

Posted by admin - August 2nd, 2008

His first found him within 229 metres of the peak when his team stopped to help a fellow mountaineer who was left for dead. Two years later, Min Bahadur Sherchan, a University of Calgary alumni, returned to Chomolungma to finish what he had started.

Hall was frostbitten and severely disoriented due to altitude sickness. Bahadur Sherchan returned a hero to Calgarians. “The Chinese weren’t allowing anybody on Mount Everest. They ended up commandeering it for themselves, even though Mt Everest is shared by two countries. They basically coerced the Nepali government to not allow any climbers past camp two on the Nepali side. The 75-year-old man from Nepal is now the oldest person to have reached the top of Everest. Sherchan just 11 days away from his 77th birthday beat the age record set last year by 71-year-old Japanese teacher Katsusuke Yanagisawa.

Bahadur Sherchan and four climbing guides reached the 29,035-foot (8,850-meters) summit of the world’s highest mountain early Sunday, said Ramesh Chretri, an official with Nepal’s ministry of tourism.

Andrew Brash last attempt resulted in the rescue of Lincoln Hall, an Australian climber who was left by his team in the “death zone.”

This year French alpinist Anthony Loeff is reporting the scales for Chomolungma or Mount Everest after reaching the top of Mont Blanc earlier this season.

Andrew Brash returned this week from Nepal after successfully climbing to the summit of Mount Everest. Now that Bahadur Sherchan has successfully scaled the tallest mountain in the world, he is once again ready to focus on his family. With the Chinese preparing for the impending summer Olympic Games, Min Bahadur Sherchan noted that the government’s actions hardly reflected the Olympic spirit. Nepalese man, 76, oldest mountaineer to scale the peak of Everest The Chinese were flying their airplanes over Mt Everest and had Chinese officials in Kathmandu. “the Mount Everest this year became a political pawn,” he said with some frustration.

More than 3144 people have climbed to the summit since it was first conquered in 1953 by New Zealander Edmund Hillary, who died in January, and Nepal’s Tenzing Norgay.

Further, he was all too aware of the potential dangers Chomolungma could bring. Certain parts of the climb are more dangerous than others and it is important for climbers to remain focused Indeed, the decision to actualize a long-time personal goal left Bahadur Sherchan with some internal uncertainties, he cited the political actions of China and Nepal as providing the greatest adversity he faced on his journey. As he planned for the climb, Sherchan told reporters he wanted to inspire fellow senior citizens. He also said many Nepalese have established records on Chomolungma or Mount Everest, so it was only fitting that the record for the oldest climber to reach the summit should also belong to a Nepali. They flexed their muscles this year all the in name of the Olympic spirit, but it was hardly spirited at all.”

Junior Golf Is Becoming More Competitive…Why?

Posted by admin - June 16th, 2008

How do you get the edge when you’re playing junior golf? To keep up with the top junior golfer’s means getting stronger both physically and mentally; and almost perfecting your golf swing. That’s how competitive it’s become.

There are big bucks at stake. Full scholarships are now worth up to a hundred thousand dollars, and for some of these to junior golfers, becoming a professional golfer can mean millions…

We have started to see a dramatic change in the caliber of junior golfers. They are getting fitter, stronger and are hitting it as long as the PGA and LPGA players. This is a combination of personal coaching on swing mechanics and getting stronger.

Junior golfers like Ty Tryon, Michelle Wie and the Song sisters are a perfect example of what junior golfers are capable of, given the right approach. Parents are now realizing the investment in their kid’s golf pays off big when they receive partial or full scholarships for college.
The difference between junior golfers and adults is typically strength - not flexibility. I’ve worked with hundreds of junior golfers and within a very short period of time, doing strength training, their drives increased as much as 50 yards.

Participating in a strength training program doing the wrong exercises can hurt junior golfers not help them. The exercises have to compliment the golf swing from a dynamic standpoint and a stability standpoint. If this is not taken into consideration, improvement will not happen.

The age to begin a strength training workout for juniors is between 12-13 on up. Having a professional oversee the program at the earlier ages is crucial. The upside is a rapidly improving game and who knows…a scholarship for college.

Too many parents and juniors are going it alone and aren’t seeing the results they hoped for. This can be a long and frustrating road to take. Why not save years of searching and hundreds if not thousands of dollars, by doing a little research? Do some talking around your town to see if anyone knows of a fitness trainer who understands golf.

They are a rare breed, but if you look hard enough you can find someone somewhat qualified. Even talk to some of the teaching pros. They might know of some golf trainers who are acceptable. If not, hit the book store. There are several golf fitness books out there, but be on the “lookout”.

From what I’ve seen, most of them are NOT golf fitness books, but only “general” fitness books in disguise. If you see any pictures of a golfer sitting in or on a machine, don’t by the book. That is a telltale sign of a general fitness book. Remember, golf is played on your feet, not sitting down.

So get the edge, by getting stronger for golf! Who knows…you may be the next Tiger Woods or Annika Sorenstam.

Tony Stewart: NASCAR’S Loose Canon

Posted by admin - May 30th, 2008

Tony Stewart is up to his old tricks again, hitting people and
crying foul, only this time, the people he is attacking aren’t
camera men or fans seeking autographs. Stewart attacked Matt
Kenseth, driver of the Rouch stable number 17, at 190 miles per
hour during the Daytona 500. What makes this extra-ordinary,
even for Stewart, is that he waited til they, and 40 other cars
were racing into a turn, an act that could easily send a man to
the hospital, or just as easily sent him to the cemetery. I
wonder how it would have washed with NASCAR fans had it been
Tony Stewart that sent the late Dale Earnhardt into the wall and
his subsequent death at Daytona back in 01′? This could have
just as easily have happened to Kenseth or any other driver on
the track on Sunday. Luckily, they all walked away. But what
about next time?

Tony Stewart is going to wind up killing someone very, very
soon. His on track attacks of other drivers are constantly
overlooked by NASCAR, the same NASCAR that has sent crew chef
Chad Knaus of the number 48 Lowes Chevrolet home for 4 races and
fined him $25,000 for a technical violation. The violation?
Three-quarters of an inch too much behind the rear deck of the
car. A seemingly run of the mill infraction, but NASCAR has
thrown the book at Knaus, while they look the other way as
Stewart plows through other drivers, bad mouths his fellow
competitors, and throws hissy fits on and off camera. Not an
hour after pointing the finger of blame at other drivers for
rough driving, this maniac could be found at Daytona trying to
run other competitors off of the track at 190 mph. All of this
after just 3 months ago winning the NASCAR championship.

And if Stewart isn’t attacking drivers on the track, he can
usually be found punching out camera men as well as the
occasional autograph seeking fan. To say that Stewart is a
champion is to put a bad apple on a pedestal in front of
children worldwide and say, “Kids, this is what you should
strive to be when you grow up”. NASCAR should be ashamed of it’s
handling of this loose canon, especially considering the harsh
fines and suspensions of not only Knaus, but other drivers and
crew chiefs as well.

I think it should be a criminal offense to maliciously go after
another driver with the intention of wrecking him. Drivers are
obviously aware of the danger level involved with this act,
which could easily result in death(s). In such a scenario,
NASCAR could also be held liable if they repeatedly looked the
other way while one of the drivers were attempting to murder
people on the track. Maybe then they would step up and take care
of out of control hot heads like Tony Stewart before they
actually take the life of a fellow driver.

Achieve Better Posture and Improve Your Next Round

Posted by admin - May 19th, 2008

Golfers struggling to improve their performance on the course must typically focus on the fundamentals to get to a more consistent level of play. Often one of the most overlooked areas of play is the postural address or setup position of the swing. Most people are aware of the importance of their setup routine; however, many overlook the less addressed area of posture.

Proper posture and foot placement allows you to maintain your balance throughout the swing. Balance throughout the swing allows you to hit the ball squarely in the center of the clubface. Also proper body alignment can help to create a setup that leads to control. Postural alignment is an integral part of the quality of your golf swing.

Good postural alignment helps you create power and control the direction of the shot. Key pre-swing elements such as ball position and body alignment create the conditions that lead to control. The body angles that you create at address directly influence the path and angle on which you swing the club. They influence the body positions and movements; thus your setup directly affects all elements of the swing.

A physical fitness assessment can give you much information on achieving good posture throughout your swing. Don’t overlook the advantages of muscular strength and flexibility when considering the golf swing. These advantages can make the difference between playing great golf and constantly struggling to maintain your current level of play.

By identifying areas of weakness, you are able to direct your fitness regimen to retrain old muscle habits, improve muscle memory, coordinate spinal movement and thus improve your posture. Concentrating on the muscles that control the spine angle, your center of gravity and balance, you will improve the muscles necessary to correct current swing faults. This will obviously lead to better golf performance.

Retraining posture through correct technique, proper exercises and stretch routines can be perhaps the best thing you can do to improve your game.

Effortless Power Golf Swing

Posted by admin - April 18th, 2008

A power golf swing is the dream of every golfer. How many times have you hit one just perfect and tried desperately to remember what you did that caused this to happen?

A power golf swing is not about swinging hard.

So many times a golfer will try to “put a little more into it” to get a few extra yards. If you’ve tried this…what happened? Did you get those extra yards or did it go shorter and even offline?

That’s the point I’m trying to make!

To hit a LONG drive or add yards to every club in your bag…you need to be able to generate more clubhead speed, but under control. That’s where most golfers lose it.

If your body can’t physically make an optimum swing, from a mechanical standpoint, you have no business trying to swing any harder. The result will be a blown up score and drives that go significantly shorter…not longer.

The beauty of getting your body in better ‘golf shape’ is that you can hit the ball with more force…but with much less effort.

Let me explain.

If you’ve improved your core strength and flexibility for example, you will be able to make a FULL shoulder turn (backswing) with minimal tension. This backswing has now a ton of torque built up. With your newfound strength and flexibility…you will be able to ‘unleash’ that torque, powerfully into the golf ball.

Doesn’t that make sense?

Now imagine if you improved your overall body specific to golf. Now you’ve got a power golf swing that is under control and killing it off the tee! Your playing partners won’t know what hit them.

So the key to remember in an effortless power golf swing is improving your bodies ability to rotate and store energy…then ‘unleash it’ into the ball at impact.

If you are lacking distance and feel like you’re trying to swing harder, this is the reason why. A fit golfer has a HUGE advantage over an out-of-shape one.

Follow this advice and you’re on your way to an effortless power golf swing!

Compound Bow and the Padded Arrow Sport

Posted by admin - April 5th, 2008

Compound Bow Technique

The Compound Bow is a technique intended to lessen the amount of force the archer must use and to increase the total energy that is held by the bow. A lot of compound bows use cams at the end of the limbs to make the most of the leverage given by the archer while minimizing the holding force of the bow. The smaller the force needed to hold the compound bow, the lesser the strain is on the archer’s back muscles while drawing the string. This gives the muscles more time to rest and the archer more time and energy to concentrate on his aim. Archers often use a release aid to help keep the string and the arrow steady and to release it accurately. This release aid has a trigger and is attached to the bowstring. This allows the archer to pull and release the string using the trigger.

Because of the lesser demands of the compound bow, it is often reduced to a ‘training-wheel bow.’ Usually, an archer with a solid recurve bow technique has a good compound bow technique. However, the compound bow must be altered to the limits of the archer like his limit in draw length. The correct draw length of an archer is determined mostly by the arm length and shoulder width of the archer.

The Padded Arrow Sport

The Padded Arrow Sport is an activity practiced by a small but growing subculture for a period of over 50 years. It has developed into an organized sport for some while it is a form of live action combat with an unclear system for others. Live Action War Games are made up of individuals or groups of fifty to a hundred people that are dressed in authentic combat armor and use padded sports weapons all in the attempt to simulate battlefields.

Although most war games use guns, some systems allow the use of real bows and arrows. These are however regulated by limiting the bow draw weight from twenty to forty-five pounds and by using blunt, coin-tipped arrows whose heads are wrapped and secured in an open-cell foam padding. These are called ’safety arrows’. Unlike the traditional bow techniques, the use of ’safety arrows’ or the ‘foam archers’ have to deal with releasing weighted arrows resulting in a more awkward projectile with a maximum effective range of only about fifty or sixty feet. The players in the Padded-arrow sport should always remember that even though they are padded, actual bows and arrows are still used. With this, precautions should be taken like frequent equipment checks.

In addition to the clumsiness of the bow and the padded arrows, archers need to keep moving around to stay clear of the hundreds of other opponents. This makes the sport even more challenging and appealing. In the battlefield, players are up against people who are charging against them, hiding and using tactics to bring a person or a team down. Because of this, archers have to master the skill in aiming, proper positioning and calculating range, distance and projectile in order to make an effective hit while running from the enemy. Each player must learn strategy and tactics as well to avoid being attacked or removed from the game due to and injury point system or an actual physical injury.
