The Marvelous Rewards of Fire Suppression

Posted by admin - December 3rd, 2009

To fend off damaging harms caused by fire in homes or offices, safety precautions should be well plotted and fulfilled. Escape routes should also be set in instance a fire emergency erupts in addition to a fire alarm system. This should admit a “walk-through” synonymous to “fire practises” as taught in schoolhouses. More significantly, youngsters should know where to escape in a fire emergency.

Most homeowners put in fume sensors at several places in the house. Smoke detectors offer security from fume that is detected at high points in a room. Yet, when a fire begins at a really low level without a lot of fume, as in an electrical fire, it may take some time before adequate smoke accumulates at a level where it can activate the smoke detector. In this certain instance, it may not render occupants adequate time to properly react since time is already lost so fire warning devices become our first line of safety.

To every building occupant, FM200 is really fundamental. Oftentimes, occupants may be in an area of the building where it is hard to hear alarms. Hurt and even death are significantly avoided when there is a good emergency escape design and fire alarms. For household usage, there are kinds of fire alarms that are fitted with heat sensors which detect strange heat degrees in the home. Other fire alarms are suited with warning sounds that can be heard by others. This is effective protection likewise from fires that could damage neighboring houses. Aside from saving the lives of occupants, fire alarms can also keep a home from being completely ruined.

Fire suppression devices that possess heat sensors need marginal maintenance. These heat detectors are triggered when the heat level of a certain room is beyond the specifications. When a house has different levels, fire alarms should be set up in spots away from furnaces, ranges, hearths and ovens to keep the heat sensors from being needlessly triggered.

By setting up a fire suppression system, you are bringing value to your houses. Having fire suppression in a home brings peace of mind particularly when there are older people and children around.

Fire Suppression Systems Can save Lives and Property

Posted by admin - October 24th, 2009

Essential to our safety are Fire Suppression Systems. One of the crucial grounds why fires are really destructive is because people may not know it at its commencement. With no fire suppression systems fixed up, it may be too late for people to perform a good deal of saving of property as well as lives. T o protect buildings and houses, they alert its occupants at the soonest possible time so they can flee to safety.

Electric, heat and smoke detectors as well as doing it manually, can set off fire suppression alarms. Fume and heat sensors work by having a pre-set smoke and heat degree and once those levels are exceeded, the alarms are then set off to alert everybody that there is a fire. Bright lights and blaring sounds are usually the indicators that these alarms have gone off. Others are bunched with trespasser warning signals so that your place or office is supplied with maximal protection. Searching on what kind of alarm is most suited for you is strongly promoted.

Several Fire Suppression Systems are even competent of alerting the local fire department. If you have come across one, discover if there are costs connected with it. To make sure that the fire suppression is in effective condition after they have been installed, it is needed to regularly check on it. It is worth the cause and investment to prevent tragedies by putting in Fire Suppression Systems.

Another topic that should be encompassed is knowing what to act when the cautionary signals go off. The correct thing to perform is to inform everybody what should be done during a fire emergency. This is the reason why schoolhouses, hospitals and offices have fire drills. Fire practices are dependent on the circumstances of a particular situation and may be different from others. These include the size of the home or office, the number of occupants and the size of the fire.

As a component of overseeing the fire suppression system put in, it needs to be tested regularly to make certain they are in running condition. They will be unuseable if they fail to do what they are intended to. If necessary, you can organise with your local fire department.

Do You REALLY Know Your AntiVirus Program?

Posted by admin - October 14th, 2008

This morning talking with a fellow publisher, the topic of antivirus
programs came up. Seems someone somewhere is always talking
about them.

Why? Because without a good system in place not only do you run
the risk of a potential, complete computer shutdown, but you put
your friends and associates at risk each time you contact them.

Let’s face it, the world is full of brilliant people who’s only apparent
source of satisfaction is to make the rest of us using the internet
completely miserable.

Unfortunately, they do a good job of it. However, you can, and
must, do everything to protect yourself and others.

A quick little story might help illustrate my point…

My son’s school is a public, charter affair. He “home schools,” and
the curriculum is on the internet. There are numerous families in
Odyssey Charter, each emailing the teacher, and sometimes each
other, with important information.

Last year, one of the mothers called me. She was desperate. Her
child could not access the computer. She recalled getting a suspect
email a few months earlier (few MONTHS?!) and since then nothing
had been working right for them. Now it was a total disaster, the
computer refusing to do anything.

After spending several hours a day at their house for several days,
I did locate the problem - yes, a virus. A truly sneaky one at that.

Unfortunately, there was no saving anything nor any way to
eliminate this threat. Yes, her hard drive had to be completely
wiped. They lost everything - no backups, of course - but that’s
another story.

The thing is this tragedy could have been avoided. Why DID it
happen in the first place?

The reason? Oh, they had an antivirus program, Norton, a good
one, but guess what…? They never updated it! However, the
truly sad (and comical!) part of all of this was Norton had expired
THREE YEARS earlier!!

True! They thought once it was on the computer, it magically
did everything itself, with no assistance from them. They were
“protected!” Nary one live update, nor renewal of their subscription!

Norton AntiVirus does have an automatic Live Update feature.
However, you must TELL IT to update by opening your software
and setting the settings TO update (and more!).

Symantec, producers of Norton products, also have another program
for those truly at risk. It’s called the Intelligent Updater, and is located
in their download area.

The Live Update virus definitions are released every Wednesday,
more often if they deem it necessary. Manually downloading and
installing (daily) through the Intelligent Updater link, your
machine is always current - right then and there!

If you receive tons of email, and send lots of email in return,
you’d do well to take a trip to Symantec’s website each day and
keep your own antivirus program current, manually.

Remember, those out there causing the grief are smart, if
misguided. You must be smarter! Make sure you know your
own antivirus program inside and out - and keep it current!

To your success!

The Attack of the Advertiser - Spy Mother Spy

Posted by admin - October 13th, 2008

The menacing campaigns that drive the corporate spyware and adware market is developing way out of hand. Who are these companies and how do they get away with it? They are costing computer users millions with their sneakware system of promotional crap!

We have some serious problems. These narcissistic bugger programmers that develop application and browser hijackers, pop-up pushers, adware scams and other bogus blots of code that only make life worse, need to be taught a lesson or two. They are like fleas, pesky taggers, used gum thrown on the pavement that you just stepped in, but way worse. And for what reason? Advertising?

The graffiti artist or “tagger” is trying to make a name for himself by either creative representation or pure mass distribution. Hey, you are all annoying, you are all vandals, but really, your destruction is trite. We are not afraid of you we just think your art is ugly.

Of course you can get some bug spray or clean your shoe, but these hijacks will cost you a whole lot more. Oh yeah, I have seen massive amounts of destruction brought about by malicious code, and I am not talking about viruses.

Let’s Reason

Truthfully, I think we need to intervene and get a hold of this situation. There are companies that produce “hijackers” for the sake of advertising. But that code has grown far too chaotic to serve as any means for honest advertising. I am hired every day to fix problems brought about by certain American corporate advertising campaigns.

Most of us have experienced the various “Trojans” that hijack your Internet browser start and search pages, changing them to some site that they are advertising for, let alone the formidable “about.blank” page. The Trojan then makes it difficult to change these setting back, often requiring Registry edits and special removal tools just so you can get back to easy Internet browsing.

Let’s look at some industry specifics.

One of the largest Adware agencies WhenU.com of New York, distributes its software piggybacked on popular “free” applications downloaded from the Internet. Once on your computer, it then distributes advertisements in the form of pop-ups to your desktop as you browse the Internet. Who’s to blame in this scenario, WhenU or its clients that actually pay WhenU to distribute their ads? Merck, T-Mobile, Priceline, Verizon, to name a few.

And mortgage brokers. I would say that 50% of all the spam I receive is based around some untrue promise about an enormously low interest rate for which I qualify. Strange, most of the junk mail I get in my street mailbox is the same crap. WHO FALLS FOR THIS? It must work if the junk keeps coming and coming.

I am not talking specifically about spam here, that is a story in itself, but I am talking about unfair marketing techniques that need to be controlled. We all see our fair share of mortgage company pop-ups, don’t we?

Give me the shotgun!

The worst of the worst are the various toolbar distributors that promise a better Internet experience. CoolWebSearch, Hotbar, WyWebSearch, and the horrid “My Search Assistant” which mutates itself if you try to uninstall it. How creepy is that? Every time you uninstall the hijacker, it places itself in a different spot on your computer and renames itself, so the next time you restart your PC, it re-installs. Trust me, the longer you keep this program on your system, the worse your system gets. More and more pop-ups which lead to more spyware and adware and the resolution is horrendous. Wipe and reload.

The Reverence

Bow down to the savior of smart computing. Learn to understand how your system gets infected. Learn to use the appropriate spyware and adware prevention programs and removal tools. Learn to get some help before it is too late. The difficult part if finding who to trust.

That’s where I come in.

Is Your Music Player Spying On You?

Posted by admin - October 13th, 2008

In today’s times spyware is a very serious issue and all computer users should be aware of the possible damage it can cause. It is estimated by well known industry insiders that nearly 90% of all computers are infected with some kind of spyware. This no
surprise as spyware programs can be highly contagious and spread from computer to computer via emails and network exchanges rapidly.

Spyware’s main intent is usually to track where you go on the internet. This includes websites you visit, what you buy from the internet, and generally what you use the internet for, all the while the spyware program will report this information back to the publisher. The publishers of spyware are rich with all the information of thousands of computer users surfing habits and they make a huge profit by selling this information to third parties who may not take your privacy concerns in to account.

You may think that running anti-virus programs and firewalls on your computer will be enough to protect you from this threat but think again. Spyware can easily slip past these programs as spyware disguises itself as a part of a program that you actually want to install on your computer. Programs that you use daily may be harvesting spyware.

One of the most popular music players on the internet that millions of people use to play, download and organise their favourite music with is actually spyware. Can you guess what it is? RealPlayer is not just a feature rich jukebox anymore, it’s spyware. If you read the agreement before you install the player for the first time, RealPlayer actually tells the unsuspecting user that it will record all the information about what music you listen to, what videos you view and how often. It then transmits this private information back to it’s corporate office using your resources while doing so. This information is kept on file and used to profile you. Unfortunately you have no say in what information they have access to.

Spyware detection and removal software is imperative to keeping your private information private and keeping your computer healthy. It’s a scary thought that companies are armed with the technology to snoop on you when you are simply enjoying music and watching videos you enjoy in you own home.

“Ransom Trojan” Uses Cryptography for Malicious Purpose

Posted by admin - October 13th, 2008

Every day millions of people go online to find information, to do business, to have a good time. Alas, some people go there to commit crimes as well. Though crimes have been committed via the Internet almost from its very launch, now cybercriminals have become dangerous as never before.

We’ve been warned lots of times about stealing data — identity theft, phishing scams and pharming; we have at least heard of denial-of-service attacks and “zombie” computers, and now one more type of online attack has emerged: holding data for ransom. Extortionists remotely encrypt somebody’s files and then demand money for the key to decode the information.

Experts say it is not yet a tendency; websites that used to infect users with the Trojan, have been put down. Besides, this program, Trojan.Pgpcoder, exploits a vulnerability in Microsoft Internet Explorer, which users should have patched as long ago as last July. However, there is no guarantee that such attacks won’t appear in future, and all PCs will be patched at that time.

Websense, the San Diego-based Web security company, was the first to report such a case two weeks ago, when its customer fell victim to the attack.

Researchers at Symantec also have seen the malicious program used in the ransom attack. Oliver Friedrichs, a senior manager at Symantec Security Response said that attackers could use a website, email, or other means to distribute the Trojan.Pgpcoder and launch a widespread extortion campaign.

When the user visits a malicious website, his unpatched PC gets infected with a Trojan Horse (downloader-aag). This Trojan Horse downloader connects to another website, downloads the encoding application, and runs it.

The malicious encoding program searches for 15 common file types, including images and Microsoft Office files on the computer and encrypts them, and deletes the original files.

Then it creates a file with a ransom note called “Attention!!!”, where demands $200 for a tool needed to decrypt the files.

However, there is a weak spot in the attackers’ scheme. It is possible to trace the money and to catch the extortionists when they try to collect the ransom. Maybe, it will prevent this kind of cybercrime from spreading.

Time will show whether we see this Trojan attack again or something similar appears and there will be a real need for a name for such type of Trojans — how do you like “ransomware”? I have already seen this word used, but let’s hope for the best.

Anyway, it is always wise of users to keep anti-virus and security software up-to-date and back up data. Just to be on the safe side.
