Family Meal Planning

Posted by admin - April 26th, 2008

Planning your meals ahead of time often saves you time as well as money.

There are many different ways to plan your meals. How you plan yours depends on how much time you want to spend now to save yourself time later.

I plan my meals once a week. Because I have limited refrigerator/freezer space and a small family to feed (3), this plan seems to work best for me. I only go to the grocery store once a week. When I’m getting ready to go to the store, I sit down and starting planning my menu for the next week.

One day I was looking at the ready-made templates that came with my word processing program, and I noticed there was a weekly menu planner and grocery shopping list. I printed out enough weekly menu planners to last a month or two.

The weekly meal planner has columns for every day of the week with “Breakfast,” “Lunch,” and “Dinner” listed for each day. Every weekend you write in your meals for the week, and then make up a shopping list to take to the grocery store. The menu planner has a place at the bottom to write in your shopping list, or you could make up a separate list. Download a free menu planner template from http://www.creativehomemaking.com/download.shtml. Just print, and photocopy as needed.

The best way to organize your menu planners is in a three-ring binder. Customize your binder to suit the needs of your family.

When Do You Know A Sales Prospect Is Dead?

Posted by admin - April 26th, 2008

It seems like an obvious and stupid question doesn’t it?

When can you know a sales prospect is not interested in your offer?

You know when he says he’s not interested, right?

Not necessarily. Let’s say you’re calling someone on the phone, you don’t know each other, and before you can get to square one, he says he’s not interested.

What is he not interested in? Is it in speaking at that moment, listening to a presentation, or your product or service, specifically? You just can’t KNOW from this statement.

So, you might try to reply with a transition phrase, such as “Well, I appreciate that, but” and continue from there.

If he comes back again, with the same or a similar line, well, the game should be over, and we should let him go, with a nice phrase such as, “Thanks for your courtesy.”

Next?

But how can we know when someone is no longer interested if we have communicated many times and possibly visited and made a formal, written proposal? Let’s say we’ve called back, left voice and email messages and we’re getting zip, in return?

Can we infer the deal is dead, we blew it, or we’re too expensive, too late, or just too anything for his or her tastes?

Maybe, but it’s just a guess, at best.

All of us who have more than a few years of sales or business experience know that miracles happen. A prospect that you thought was deader than dead a few months before might call you and be hot to trot, or you might contact him and hear the same happy news.

Personally, I like to see the nails in the coffin before I am convinced a deal is dead.

So, if I get silence after having numerous contacts, I’ll wait a spell, and then try again, perhaps offering a new service or product or piece of information in my message.

And sometimes, I do feel a pulse and the deal comes back to life!

What is a Secured Personal Loan?

Posted by admin - April 24th, 2008

A secured personal loan is the generic term for a loan. Essentially, a secured personal loan is one that is secured against your property.

It is a low interest loan designed exclusively for homeowners. What this means is that, by taking out a secured loan, you are using your house to guarantee the loan repayments. A Secured Personal Loan enables you to make use of this asset which will provide security for your loan.

Secured personal loans are the best loans for homeowners, of course there is a greater risk attached to this loan as the home is put up as a collateral. The home is under risk if the repayments are not paid duly. If you continually fail to make repayments on a secured loan, you could be putting your house at risk.

Because the risk is lower for the lender than on an unsecured loan it is possible to get better interest rates than on a loan that is not secured on a property. This is also the reason that lenders are able to offer higher sums than for unsecured loans.

So, why do people take out secured personal loans? Well, firstly you may want to borrow money in order to increase your home’s value by making improvements to your home. Others may take on a debt consolidation loan, which means that you take on a large loan for a long period, which pays, off your other loans and credit cards and you end up paying a smaller monthly payment than you were paying with all of your other loans together.

Many people choose secured loans as opposed to unsecured loans because the interest rate is often lower. Typically secured loans are offered at low interest rates, as the risk taken on by the loan company is less.

The application process is a lot longer with secured loans than with unsecured loans, due to the fact that your loan provider will need to value your home.

However, it is easier for you to be approved for a secured loan because you are using your home as security. It is very likely that your loan is far smaller than the value of your home, so the loan provider will view it as less of a risk.

With a secured personal loan you can borrow from £5,000 to £75,000 with low monthly repayments. Loans secured on property can be repaid over a period of between 5 years and 25 years .

A Secured Personal Loan has the following advantages:

Offers a flexible and fast way of raising cash

Loans are available for most purposes including clearing other expensive credit commitments

Since your property is used as security for the loan you will be able to take advantage of the special interest rates available

There are usually no valuation or legal fees to pay

Choice of sum borrowed at a monthly repayment you feel able to manage comfortably

Loans are available over a relatively short term

Anxiety - Questions Asked By Concerned Candidates

Posted by admin - April 24th, 2008

What is anxiety is a question asked by many people who tend to feel confused when trying to decipher the difference between this illness as it is seen and that of others. Is anxiety an illness - is it an ailment or is it a disorder - yes anxiety is classed as all three. Different stages denote whether it is an illness or a disorder.

For the severe cases that show signs of stress which is escalating out of control is a sure way of telling that the patient is suffering from an anxiety disorder.

Anxiety gives out a feeling of uneasiness. At some stage in a persons life there will have been times where they have experienced the discomfort of anxiety with anxious moments. Moments like this can arise when faced with dilemmas otherwise seen as stressful situations, for example before going for a job interview - sitting for an exam or during that of a worrying time through illness.

Most questions asked once again by concerned candidates is it normal to feel anxious when faced agains`t something difficult or dangerous, yes everyone can suffer from anxious bouts - it is not an unusual response to stressful situations. It has been known to improve performance in some cases

However, in the UK the one in ten people that suffer from anxiety are cases of severity where the anxiety interferes with their normal daily lifestyle. Excessive anxiety is notably directed or associated with many other psychiatric conditions, like depression. Anxiety is without doubt considered abnormal when the signs or symptoms hang around longer than necessary - in other words prolonged.
Another strong cause behind prognosis of severity is when the anxiety bouts develop to a stage where it takes hold over on how you live your life - once again meaning how it interferes with day to day activities.

If this being the case then those anxious events is classed as an anxiety disorder - where medical treatment is needed

The physical symptoms of anxiety are identified by how the brain sends signals to other parts of the body preparing for a fight or flight reaction. The human brain releases stress hormones, which includes adrenaline. Common symptoms that can occur are: abdominal discomfort, rapid heartbeat or palpitations, dizziness, diarrhoea, shortness of breath, dry mouth, tightness or pain in chest, frequent urination or finding it difficult to swallow.

Anxiety is seen as the culprit when a mental health problem is recognised, such as depression, alcohol abuse, personality disorder, even withdrawal from the long-term use of drugs or tranquillisers.

The signs to look out for when psychological anxiety is present are: inability to concentrate, fear of madness, insomnia, irritability or anger - even the common feeling of discomfort where loss of control of your actions is evident - which is a familiar symptom high on the list of the psychological side. Some types of anxieties are closely associated with physical illnesses which - can be a thyroid disorder. If treatment takes place for whatever the diagnosed illness is, then the anxiety can improve over time.

If at any time that you or a member of the family even a close friend are showing signs of stress related concerns then please consult with your doctor - especially before buying over the counter medication.

White Sun - Wisdom of Life

Posted by admin - April 23rd, 2008

To be able to realize our own ignorance is to be wise. Some people say that they know a lot and they are good at poetry, literature and art. But the wise may say, in fact they know is just a smattering of everything. I have met people in the spiritual field claiming that there is nothing to learn in Tao. The sage does not have this fault because he steers clear of such a fault and he knows he can never stop learning.

My Heavenly Master said, “Being in the midst of the heavens and the earth, Man must not regard oneself as unsurpassed and superior to others, or consider oneself as the center of everything. This is the so-called: There are heavens exterior to a heaven; there are Men exterior to a man. You should understand that you are just a grain in a vast sea, just a grain of sand. Then, within this sand-territory of the Ganges (the entire universe), the roles that you must play are just a matter of several decades. When you have finished with singing this opera, where are you moving house again? This is uncertain. You must be far-sighted, be very sure that you don’t get attached to the beautiful scenes before your eyes and that year after year, you spend the time only in serving your own interests; only serving your own happiness!

Take a look at your national heroes, the idols within your hearts. These heroes could be so peerless in their martial skills and become everyone’s idols. They can make so many people fall with one kick. But could they conquer ‘impermanence’? No, they couldn’t. Instead, they were fallen by just a gentle kick from impermanence. Hence, no matter how adaptable people are; no matter how high and unsurpassed their wisdom is, they cannot fight against a gentle blow from the impermanence. When ‘Yama’ (underworld guardian angel) sends the blank paper over (issue an order), mustn’t people let go what their hands have grasped and leave the human world?”

Nobody can escape old age, sickness and death. Let’s think about this: How many happy events are there in this life? The most anxious thing for people is just hunger and cold. Even if one wears silk, drinks fine wine, tastes exotic food everyday and lives in mansion, the flesh cannot stay unwithered for a hundred years. The wealth and nobility of life is actually a dream. People are entangled by many things in the world; and these entanglements are all invited by oneself.

Everyone of us must go through the sour, sweet, bitter and spicy parts of life. Human existence in the world has more suffering than joy. To put an end to this suffering, we must make contributions and build our virtues. Only with true merits and honest repentance can Heaven offer true help. Make the journey of life a meaningful one and let’s see a poem by my Heavenly Master JiGong;

“Reconize the directions clearly. Turn the steering wheel on seeing the wind (grip opportunities). Rebuild a new life and seek the Root. Throw away and let go all greed, anger, ignorance and blind love and passion. To the ones with affinity, the Saints and Worthies are beckoning from afar. Do encourage yourself and do cultivate with haste.”

Wisdom of life is to reconize ourselves, who we are and why we are here. In this land of endurance there is a great heap of defects and frustrations. We have a choice and don’t live without choices. Humble ourselves and learn the way to liberation of life. Use the false self (body) to save the true self (soul). Let go of all attachments and don’t crave for fame and wealth. Free ourselves from greed and worries and if we are willing to adapt to all conditions, a bitter gall-bladder can turn into a sweet spring; if we can transform the situations, a thatched cottage can be an elegant mansion too.

Author: T.A Chew

T.A Chew, till now has been living a simple life and his small little house temple is like a mansion with a beautiful willow tree. If ever he has to build a great mansion, it would be a great temple for all to come together to study and practise Tao. Website: http://www.white-sun.com

How to Prioritize Your Work

Posted by admin - April 22nd, 2008

Regardless of whether you are a student, work at home mom, a web designer, or a CEO of a Fortune 500 company, prioritizing your work is critical to your success. Failing to prioritize your work load usually results in being extremely inefficient and extremely stressed out. How many times have you thought to yourself “I have so much to do today, how am I ever going to get it all done?”

There is no exact science to prioritizing, but there are several tips that should help you become a more efficient, less stressed version of your current self:

  • Make a list - this may seem obvious but you’d be surprised at how many people try to organize their tasks in their head. You’ll often find that you feel a lot better just getting everything out so that you can see it in one place.
  • Consider time constraints - what absolutely needs to get done today and what can wait until tomorrow or next week. Everything may be important eventually, but some things are more important now.
  • Consider people constraints - all things equal, move things that other people are waiting on to the top of the list. If you know that your manager can’t finish his proposal without your part, that’s more important than the thing that you always do on Wednesday that could just as well be done on Thursday.
  • Consider the consequences - are you going to get fired if you don’t do something? Is another task going to give you the inside track on that promotion? Those things should be more important than mildly inconveniencing the sales manager by responding to their email a day late.
  • Re-prioritize as necessary - let’s face it, priorities change. As they do, update your list. It will give you a sense of control over the situation.
  • Remove unimportant items - is there something on your list that you always push to the bottom and never end up doing? Then get it off the list. It doesn’t belong there.
  • Don’t list EVERYTHING - only list crucial tasks. You don’t need to list routine tasks (like lunch) or menial tasks (like checking your email). Also, you’re going into too much detail if you put down prioritizing as a task.
  • Do everything you can to keep your list small - this means saying NO sometimes. You are not other people’s gopher. Do your work and help other people with theirs when you have something to offer, but don’t do their work for them. Along the same lines, learn to delegate things to the people that are supposed to be doing them. Why book your plane tickets when you have an assistant for that?

Adam McFarland owns iPrioritize - the efficient way to get organized. iPrioritize is the next evolution of list making. We take your pen and paper list and turn it into a live list that can be edited at any time from any place in the world. We make it easy for you to email and print your list, subscribe to your list via RSS, share your list with others, and check your list on your mobile phone.

How to Buy a Porch Swing

Posted by admin - April 22nd, 2008

The Porch Swing is enjoying a surge in popularity thanks to the latest Home & Garden trend towards building “Garden Rooms”. Patio Furniture Retailers have responded by flooding the market with so many options that making a choice can be a daunting task. Here are some factors that you should consider to help you make the best Porch Swing choice for you:

Porch Swings are now made from a wide range of building materials. The most common are wood and wicker. Popular woods used are cedar, teak, pine, maple, and oak. The materials vary greatly in terms of strenth and durability. While Oak is the strongest, it also tend to be very heavy. Cedar offers the greatest strength to lightest weight ratio. The wood is very light and has 80% the strength of oak. Cedar also has natural properties that enable the wood to resist rot and decay. In addition, it won’t bow or sag, crack or chip making it one of Outdoor Furniture’s most desired building materials. Pine is lightweight and relatively inexpensive but is soft and dents and cracks easily. The durability of wicker varies depending on the materials used to make the wicker.

Porch Swing physical features like seat depth, angle of the back and space between the slats, length of the seat, and joint construction can vary widely. The depth of the seat is one feature that is very important. Seat depth can range from 18 to 36 Inches. There is no one correct depth. It’s a personal choice based on comfort.

For maximal comfort, the back of the Swing should be slightly tilted. And there should be some space between the slats to allow air to circulate.

Swings can generally hold one to three people depending on the length of the seat. But keep in mind that the longer the seat the heavier the supports that will be required. Generally, a Porch Swing that seats two comfortably is recommended.

Finally, the functional nature of Porch Swings requires that the joints be screwed or bolted together. Joints that are nailed together are not recommended as a Porch Swing is a functional peice of and the nails will come loose with use.

Another criterium to consider is whether to buy a finished or unfinished Porch Swing. Porch Swings are now available in a variety of finishes. Some are stained, others painted in colors ranging from white to a rainbow of multiple colors. Many Porch Swings are also unfinished. The unfinished Porch Swings provide the most options later and some can be left to age naturally without finishing. Unfinished Cedar, for example, is “Outdoor reaady”. No finishing is required. An unfinshed Patio Furniture Porch Swing also leaves lots of “dress up” options. While it might be difficult to find cushions to match muti-colored Porch Swings, by starting with an unfinished Outdoor Furniture swing, you could pick the stain or paint to match the cushion!

Installion is another important consideration. If you have a covered Porch with exposed joists, your installation job is automatically made easier. However, your options re: length and weight of the Porch Swing may be limited. If you intend on building your own Porch Swing support for the garden or an uncovered porch, more options are open to you as you can build the support according to the weight and length of the Porch Swing.

By considering the building material, physical features, the finish, and your particular installation requirements in advance, your task of choosing the Porch Swing that is best for you will be much easier. And you’ll be enjoying your Porch Swing that much faster with fewer hastles!

Kevin Snook is the owner and operator of Patio Furniture retailer http://www.GoCedar.com, Porch Swing that’s shipped free to homes and cottages throughout the Continental USA and Canada.

Do You Know What Tomorrow Will Bring?

Posted by admin - April 22nd, 2008

I’ve been sharing the following idea with people for a few years now, and realized recently that I had never written specifically about it. So here it is:

“I cannot predict the future.”

That may seem simple enough, and it’s certainly accurate, yet for many advisors, this edict is completely disregarded. How many times have you heard someone say, “I know,” when what they really meant was, “I guess?” In stating that I cannot predict the future, my intention is not to appear pessimistic. On the contrary, I agree with what Roosevelt had to say about the issue; “The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today.” I therefore believe that we can accomplish just about anything. Nevertheless, believing anything is possible is far more grounded in reality than believing that I could know, with any precision, how everything will ultimately unfold. And so with that much clear, I would like to share what I do not know about our collective financial futures.

I do not know which segment of the market will outperform all others during this year, or any year.

I do not know if this year’s equity market will be up, down, volatile, or stagnant.

I do not know what our tax system will look like in ten, twenty, or thirty years.

I do not know what the rate of inflation will be, or what the rise in housing will be, or college tuition, or gas, or bottled water.

I do not know if age expectancies will continue to increase or begin to decrease.

I do not know how the United States will fare in competition with the rapidly developing markets of other nations.

While it may appear that I don’t know much, here’s what I do know:

I can presume, in a careful manner, certain long-term expectations. And if I am successful in helping my clients understand and appreciate those expectations, I would hope to maximize their full financial potential.

I am able (and willing) to respond to change. Ask any advisor who’s been doing it for fifty years what he thinks about change, and he’s likely to tell you his way is the best way, always was, and always will be.

I believe there is a close-to-perfect approach to meeting the goals of each client, and I spend great effort, in every instance, to find out what that is. Each individual, each family, each small business owner has their own attributes, and I am ever-present to the notion of finding a common ground.
I always attempt to write about topics that transcend finance. Money is allegoricalhow you save and spend both your time and your energy will often correlate with how you manage your finances. What I do not know about the future therefore also transcends economics, and so I approach everything with an open mind. Do you?
